The dirty truth
I originally started building this game in 2018 shortly after I began my journey with game development using Unity. I must admit - it was a larger project than I could handle then. With more classes under my belt and a few smaller games built along the way, more progress was made on it.
Around 2020 I ran into a brick wall when I experienced my game working in unity editor, but the build wouldn’t. - the build available today.
The project was shelved due to frustration on not being able to find a resolution. Later, I came to understand I had coroutine timing issues.
My interest, exploration and expression in the digital arts was born out of lack of space for my favored traditional arts. With only being able to focus on creating in the digital - a loathing for the medium grew and creativity halted. A number of other issues surrounded the abrupt stop to digital arts as well - hardware failures, software failures and following changes, moves...

There is a different mindset and way of thinking from medium to medium. And there is a great benefit to working with one’s hands. Being in that head space that allows a passive thinking to work out and resolve issues a direct focus can’t see. Now, I have a studio for my traditional arts, a balance can be restored, and the mind is rolling around GotZ.
Given some time for it to roll around in the back of my head, and that itch to finish a project I started - I pulled the project off the shelf and gave it a good dusting.
I can’t make promises to when I will have the project complete, but it will see completion. Not only does it take time to work out timing issues, digital art (programming=writing=art) is not a priority nor primary form of expression for this artist. But the mood does arise.
I do intend a tabletop version of this. I don’t know yet if I will use a print manufacturer or go by route of print and play.

Why this game? Why is Guardians of the Zodiac so important to finish?
I don’t like giving up on something when the finish line is right there, and I can eventually make it.
The complete concept is playable on paper. I do like playing games from time to time and this is one I favor.
The game is just a small piece of a larger pie – the Ryalin Systems Universe.

The current build’s issue:
When taking turns quickly - the coroutines do not have enough time to finish and the player's pieces will freeze.
The quick guide is not working.
~80% complete. Artwork for the game is done. What is left: setting up the vs computer modes
--- --- ---
The first item I am addressing is a how to play guide that will be available through game’s webpage. I hope to have this up by the end of March.
Then, onto the programming!
I do believe my coroutine issues will be resolved once functionality for vs computer is in place. making the player vs self/player setting - each player would take an extra step to start their turn.
The guide not working is an issue where it is working in editor but not in build as well. I have a good idea exactly the issue here.
>>game will only be on sale while project is in development.
